Frequently asked questions
The government, health insurers and health professional membership bodies all maintain that dietitian and diabetes education consults cover different topics, although they do overlap, so you can’t attend one appointment for both services.
– Which service did your doctor refer you for, if you were referred? Then book for that particular service.
– If you want advice about losing weight or in depth diet advice then a dietitian consultation would be appropriate.
– If you want advice on managing your diabetes, for example which CGM to use, or want to change your NDSS (National Diabetes Services Scheme) registration then a diabetes education consultation would be appropriate.
Nutrition Intuition doesn’t offer bulk billing however you will receive a rebate from Medicare for your consult.
Yes, Nutrition Intuition will service you and DVA or your package provider will cover the cost.
Dale is registered with private health insurance companies. Look through the “Extras” component of your health insurance policy to check if you have coverage. Each provider and each policy is different. Nutrition Intuition can’t tell you how much you’ll get back from the consultation fee. Although it’s simply a matter of phoning your insurer and asking about your individual policy.
If you see Dale for a dietitian consultation, you claim under dietetics. If you see her for a diabetes education consultation, you claim under diabetes education. Unfortunately, she could be de-registered if she were to provide a tax invoice for the wrong appointment type.
No, you don’t need a special app. You well receive an email and it will contain a link which you click on at your appointment time.
No, you can use a smart mobile phone or tablet if you don’t have a laptop or desktop computer. Alternately, book a telephone appointment or a home visit.
Eating, nutrition and diabetes management are very personal to each individual.
For both a dietitian and diabetes education appointment, you will be asked some standard questions. These will include your medical history, medications, pathology, height, weight, waistline, lifestyle (work, family, social routine) and exercise. This is to ensure the information and advice you receive is individual to you and your lifestyle. As opposed to you changing your routine to fit the nutrition advice.
Dietitian Appointments
Everyone eats different things every day. Everyone has different taste preferences. Every medical condition requires different nutritional therapies. This is why you will be asked for a detailed diet history. This usually involves asking you about your daily routine and what you eat throughout a typical day. This can be a very difficult thing to provide for some people. However, this is a key component of the process so your nutrition plan and goals are individualised.
Before your appointment, please download our weekly food diary. Use this to keep a record of your eating over a period of at least a week. Don’t change anything from your usual intake, just write it down as you go.
Diabetes Education Appointments
Everyone manages their diabetes differently. So Dale will ask you for details of your blood glucose levels. If you use a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) she will ask permission to access your records in the cloud. If you do fingerpricks, she’ll ask for photos of your recent pages in your record book.
Before the Appointment
You’ll receive an email with a link to fill in an online form. Please fill it in so Dale has some information to start from.
You’ll also receive reminders that your appointment is coming up.
First (initial) appointments take up to 1hour, while review (subsequent) appointments take up to 30 minutes. You must have an initial appointment before booking a review appointment.
Unfortunately, Dale only sees adults. It is recommended you look for a paediatric dietitian or diabetes educator.
